MEN’S ACCOUNTABILITY TEAMS

"As Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another" Proverbs 27:17

Back in 2011, five (5) guys from U3B decided to start a men’s Accountability Group (Fire Team) and began meeting once a week. We started shortly after hearing Tim Brown, Founder of REUP Men’s Ministry, speak at our church about the call God has placed on His men and what that might look like if we could actually “hold” each other to the fire when it comes to living the way He commands us to live.

Our enemy has convinced men that they are to “do this deal” by themselves. Scripture makes it very clear that we are expected to surround ourselves with warriors to help fight this battle. A Fire Team is a way to do just that. It is 5 – 6 men gathering in their “foxhole” each week creating a culture of expectation and accountability into each man’s life. A Fire Team is based on the Daniel 3 example of when men are thrown into the FIRE with other men that God will show up in the midst of the fire.

Fire Teams are causing men to step-up into the role that God has created them to fill. Fire Teams are igniting sparks for men to pursue God’s heart. It is a means to have all sides of your “foxhole” watched by a band of men who provide weapons and support to fire at the enemy in the midst of warfare. Fire Team is NOT a small group – this is different from anything you have ever experienced. It is a safe environment for men to “unpack the baggage” in their lives.

Since we started that first Fire Team at U3B, we have seen approximately two dozen other Fire Teams (including several Women’s Fire Teams) start this remarkable journey together. There have been many who have agreed with me in saying, I wouldn’t be the man I am today were it not for my Fire Team. They’ve helped to educate, encourage, and empower me in God’s word. The Bible says, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”
Prov. 27:17 (NIV)
